Henry J Restoration - Step 8
Remove Engine, Transmission & Drive Shaft

Step 7 || Home || Step 9

Now that the front clip has been removed , the removal of the engine and transmission will be considerably easier.  Bill advises you obtain the factory manuals for your car, they will contain the instructions for removing the engine, transmission and drive shaft from the car.  Remove the engine and transmission as a unit if possible.

Do have a fire extinguisher on hand just in case something hot comes up.  I am very glad to have a cherry picker available to lift out the engine.  Building or buying an engine stand to support the engine during restoration will be part of our plan.
Do check out the Reference Material section of this website to help you identify the manuals and/or service bulletins you should be looking for.
Taking lots of photos and careful labeling of all the parts and pieces will be required.  Everything here will need cleaning and fresh paint. Removal of everything attached to the firewall and inside the engine compartment will happen during this step.
Do not continue onto Step 9 until the body has been stripped completely bare.
